Golfer's Elbow treatment at Pura Vida Chiropractic San Antonio

Golfer's Elbow

Golfer's elbow (medial epicondylitis) causes pain and weakness at the inner elbow that interferes with gripping, forearm rotation, and sport. Our regenerative approach heals the tendon and corrects the cervical factors perpetuating it.

What Is Golfer's Elbow?

Medial epicondylitis is a degenerative tendinopathy of the common flexor-pronator tendon origin at the medial epicondyle of the humerus. Like lateral epicondylitis, the primary pathology is tendinosis rather than acute inflammation. The medial forearm flexors and pronators are affected — the muscles used in gripping with a pronated forearm, as in golf, throwing, or typing. Cervical nerve root involvement (C7–C8) contributes a neurological sensitization component that can maintain inner elbow pain despite local treatment. The ulnar nerve passes through the medial elbow and can be an additional site of entrapment contributing to inner elbow and ring/small finger symptoms.

Common Symptoms

  • Pain at the inner elbow, especially with gripping or wrist flexion
  • Tenderness directly over the medial epicondyle
  • Weakness in grip strength and difficulty with fine motor tasks
  • Pain worsened by throwing, swinging, or forearm pronation
  • Tingling or numbness into the ring and small fingers (ulnar involvement)
  • Morning stiffness at the inner elbow

Common Causes & Contributing Factors

  • Repetitive forearm flexion and wrist pronation (golf, throwing, manual labor)
  • Cervical nerve root irritation (C7–C8) sensitizing the medial forearm
  • Ulnar nerve entrapment at the cubital tunnel
  • Sudden forceful exertion overloading the medial epicondyle
  • Weakened shoulder stability altering elbow biomechanics

The Pura Vida Protocol: Chiropractic Care for Golfer's Elbow

Dr. Foss addresses the lower cervical spine (C7–C8) and the medial elbow together. SOT cervical corrections reduce nerve root sensitization of the medial forearm. Elbow adjustments restore normal ulnohumeral mechanics and reduce cubital tunnel compression on the ulnar nerve. Regenerative therapies applied to the medial epicondyle stimulate tendon healing and reduce the chronic inflammatory cycle. Most medial epicondylitis patients achieve full resolution with a complete course of combined chiropractic and regenerative care.

At Pura Vida Chiropractic, Dr. Foss uses Sacro-Occipital Technique (SOT) — a gentle, category-based system that addresses the spine, pelvis, and craniosacral rhythm as one integrated unit. SOT restores proper biomechanics, reduces nerve interference, and creates the neurological environment your body needs to heal itself.

Advanced Therapies We Combine With Chiropractic

For many patients, combining spinal correction with regenerative therapies produces faster and more lasting results. Depending on your condition, Dr. Foss may incorporate one or more of the following:

Shockwave Therapy

High-energy acoustic waves penetrate deep into tissue to break up calcifications, stimulate collagen production, and accelerate the body's natural repair process — all without surgery or downtime.

SoftWave Therapy

Patented unfocused shock waves spread over a broad treatment area to reduce inflammation, increase blood flow, and activate stem cells — promoting cellular regeneration and long-term pain relief.

Class IV Laser Therapy

Photobiomodulation with a 10–15W Class IV laser delivers therapeutic light energy deep into tissue, reducing inflammation, blocking pain signals, and speeding healing at the cellular level.
