Poor circulation — cold hands and feet, numbness, and swelling — often has a spinal component that chiropractic care can directly improve. The sympathetic nervous system controls vascular tone, and subluxations that disrupt it impair circulation.
Poor circulation encompasses a range of conditions where blood flow to the extremities is insufficient — including Raynaud's phenomenon, peripheral artery disease, venous insufficiency, and generalized vasoconstriction from sympathetic overactivation. The sympathetic nervous system, which runs through the thoracic and lumbar spine, controls arterial smooth muscle tone and directly regulates peripheral blood flow. Thoracic subluxations — particularly in the upper thoracic spine (T1–T5) — increase sympathetic tone and produce chronic peripheral vasoconstriction. Restoring normal thoracic alignment reduces sympathetic output and improves blood flow to the extremities.
Dr. Foss evaluates the thoracic spine for subluxations — particularly T1–T5 — that maintain elevated sympathetic tone and peripheral vasoconstriction. SOT thoracic adjustments at these levels normalize sympathetic output, allowing peripheral arteries to dilate and improving blood flow to the extremities. Ribcage mobility is also addressed, as rib restriction limits thoracic cage expansion and reduces cardiac output indirectly. SoftWave therapy applied to the extremities stimulates angiogenesis — the formation of new blood vessels — and improves microcirculation in the tissue.
At Pura Vida Chiropractic, Dr. Foss uses Sacro-Occipital Technique (SOT) — a gentle, category-based system that addresses the spine, pelvis, and craniosacral rhythm as one integrated unit. SOT restores proper biomechanics, reduces nerve interference, and creates the neurological environment your body needs to heal itself.
For many patients, combining spinal correction with regenerative therapies produces faster and more lasting results. Depending on your condition, Dr. Foss may incorporate one or more of the following:
Patented unfocused shock waves spread over a broad treatment area to reduce inflammation, increase blood flow, and activate stem cells — promoting cellular regeneration and long-term pain relief.
Photobiomodulation with a 10–15W Class IV laser delivers therapeutic light energy deep into tissue, reducing inflammation, blocking pain signals, and speeding healing at the cellular level.
