Trigger finger — the locking or catching of a finger in a bent position — is caused by tendon nodule formation in the flexor tendon sheath. Regenerative therapies at Pura Vida can resolve the nodule and restore smooth finger movement.
Stenosing tenosynovitis (trigger finger) develops when a nodule forms in the flexor tendon, which then catches on the narrow A1 pulley at the base of the finger as the tendon slides through during finger flexion and extension. Mild cases cause clicking or catching; severe cases result in the finger locking in flexion. It is more common in diabetics, those with rheumatoid arthritis, and people who perform repetitive gripping. While cortisone injections provide temporary relief, they often need to be repeated and do not address the underlying tendon nodule. Regenerative therapies can reduce the nodule and restore tendon gliding.
Dr. Foss addresses trigger finger primarily with regenerative therapies targeted directly at the flexor tendon nodule and A1 pulley. Wrist and finger joint adjustments restore optimal mechanics. Myofascial release of the forearm flexors and the intrinsic hand muscles reduces tendon sheath pressure. Regenerative modalities are applied to reduce the nodule, decrease tendon sheath inflammation, and restore smooth tendon gliding — allowing most trigger finger patients to recover without surgical release.
At Pura Vida Chiropractic, Dr. Foss uses Sacro-Occipital Technique (SOT) — a gentle, category-based system that addresses the spine, pelvis, and craniosacral rhythm as one integrated unit. SOT restores proper biomechanics, reduces nerve interference, and creates the neurological environment your body needs to heal itself.
For many patients, combining spinal correction with regenerative therapies produces faster and more lasting results. Depending on your condition, Dr. Foss may incorporate one or more of the following:
High-energy acoustic waves penetrate deep into tissue to break up calcifications, stimulate collagen production, and accelerate the body's natural repair process — all without surgery or downtime.
Patented unfocused shock waves spread over a broad treatment area to reduce inflammation, increase blood flow, and activate stem cells — promoting cellular regeneration and long-term pain relief.
Photobiomodulation with a 10–15W Class IV laser delivers therapeutic light energy deep into tissue, reducing inflammation, blocking pain signals, and speeding healing at the cellular level.
